    Best Practices under MGNREGS in Convergence with other Departments

    This document outlines successful case studies of projects implemented under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in convergence with various other government departments, including Agriculture, Irrigation, Animal Husbandry, Fishery, Tourism, and Horticulture. These examples showcase how integrated efforts can lead to sustainable livelihood enhancement and rural development.

    1. Eco-Tourism through Water Park (Amrit Sarovar)

    This project demonstrates the successful development of a multi-purpose water park, enhancing tourism, agriculture, and local livelihoods.

    2. Livelihood Enhancement through Lemongrass Cultivation & Processing

    This initiative focuses on creating a value chain from lemongrass cultivation to the production of high-demand consumer goods.

    • Location: Bhagwanpur, Bahadarabad, Narsan & Khanpur Blocks
    • Departments Involved: MGNREGS + Centre for Aromatic Plants (CAP)
    • Scale: 500 Hectares | 40 Gram Panchayats | 556 Farmers Benefitted

    Phase 1: Lemongrass Oil Production

    • Annual Plantation Cost (per Hectare): ₹96,000
    • Annual Oil Production (per Hectare): 225 Kg
    • Market Price: ₹1,150 per Kg
    • Total Annual Income (per Hectare): ₹2,58,750
    • Annual Profit (per Hectare): ₹1,62,750
    • Outcome: Significantly increased the income of farmers across 40 Gram Panchayats.

    Phase 2: Soap & Diffuser Production by Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

    • SHGs Involved: 17 groups (340 members)
    • Product Economics:

        • Annual Production: 25,000 units

    • Outcome: Enhanced the livelihood of 340 SHG members, promoting women’s economic empowerment.

     


    3. Work Shed for LED Bulb Manufacturing Unit

    A dedicated workspace constructed under MGNREGS has enabled women’s SHGs to establish a profitable LED bulb manufacturing business.

    • Location: Panchur, Devprayag Block, Tehri District
    • Departments Involved: Rural Development (MGNREGS & NRLM)
    • SHGs Involved: 8 groups (22 members)
    • Project Cost (Shed Construction): ₹4.89 Lakh
    • Business Financials:
      • Annual Expenditure (Raw Materials etc.): ₹70,000
      • Annual Income: ₹2,52,500
      • Annual Profit: ₹1.83 Lakh
      • Total Turnover: ₹3.08 Lakh
    • Outcome: The members of the involved SHGs have achieved significant financial independence, with many earning the “Lakhpati Didi” distinction.

     


    4. Ajeevika Package: An Integrated Livelihood Model

    This model provides a comprehensive package of livelihood assets to individual families, with a preference for landless and SECC (Socio-Economic and Caste Census) families.

    • Location: Bazeena, Bageshwar Block, Bageshwar District
    • Departments Involved: Rural Development & Animal Husbandry
    • Integrated Assets Provided:
      • Goat Rearing Unit: Cattle shed (Cost: ₹0.40 Lakh) & 11 Goats
      • Horticulture: Home Fruit Garden (Cost: ₹0.01 Lakh, for Citrus plants)
      • Organic Farming: Vermicompost Unit (Cost: ₹0.08 Lakh)
      • Water Conservation: Water Storage Tank (Cost: ₹0.08 Lakh, Capacity: 800 Litres)
    • Financial Impact:
      • Total Package Cost: ₹0.57 Lakh
      • Total Annual Expenditure: ₹0.41 Lakh
      • Total Annual Income: ₹0.75 Lakh
      • Net Annual Profit: ₹0.34 Lakh
    • Outcome: The integrated package has enhanced the beneficiary’s livelihood and improved their standard of living.

     


    5. Nutri-Garden (Poshan Vatika) for Nutritional Health

    This initiative promotes nutritional security and provides a source of income for families through the cultivation of household gardens.

    • Location: Koti Roliyalu, Thauldhar Block, Tehri District
    • Departments Involved: Rural Development & Horticulture
    • Project Details:
      • Total Cost: ₹0.26 Lakh
      • Area: 10 x 4 metres
    • Financials & Production:
      • Products: Seasonal Vegetables (Mustard Greens, Spinach, Pulses, Radish, Tomato, etc.)
      • Annual Expenditure: ₹0.26 Lakh
      • Annual Income: ₹4.00 Lakh (Note: This figure seems high and may represent total value or include other income sources)
    • Outcome: Improved the nutritional health and income of the beneficiary family.
