Bio-gas Programme

Objectives
- Setting up of biogas plants to meet clean cooking fuel, lighting, thermal and small power needs of users, resulting in GHG reduction, improved sanitation, women empowerment and generation of rural employment
- For production of organic rich bio-manure: Digested slurry from biogas plants, a rich source of manure, will benefit farmers in supplementing/ reducing the use of chemical fertilizers
- Promoting biogas based decentralized renewable energy sources of power generation (off-grid), in the capacity range of 3 kW to 250 kW or for heating/cooling applications Thermal energy Biogas produced from biogas plants of size more than 25 m3 to 2500 m3 size
- Allocation of annual targets by MNRE for installation of small biogas plants to all State Implementing Agencies under Biogas Programme with the beginning of the financial year
- Release of funds on reimbursement mode on quarterly basis against annual allocated targets to designated SNDs, PIAs i.e. State Rural Development Departments/State Nodal Agencies and KVIC, Mumbai for small biogas plants
- Increase in CFA support for NER States, Hilly States, SC/ST category for installation of small biogas plants Benefits to beneficiaries.
- Provision of additional subsidy for cowdung based biogas plants, if linked with sanitary toilets, for individual households only and for biogas slurry filter units (Rs. 1600/- per Biogas Plant)
- Additional incentive of ₹10,000/- for Biogas based Generator Set/Biogas Engine Water Pumping System (BPS) for meeting the electricity requirements of small farms and for pumping water from Biogas Plant of 10 to 25 m3
- Provision of 100% physical verification and sample village wise Biogas Plant monitoring mechanism.
- Special incentive of 20% additional subsidy for medium size Biogas Plant in NER, Islands, Registered Gaushalas, SC/ST category beneficiaries
- 8 Biogas Development and Training Centres (BDTCs) across the country are providing technical and training, field inspection and information and training. Promotional assistance to State Programme Implementing Agencies
- Various types of training courses such as construction-cum-maintenance, refresher training courses, user courses, biogas turn-key worker courses, staff training courses and skill development courses are designed to provide knowledge and skill development, create a cadre of skilled biogas masons and technicians in construction, installation, commissioning and maintenance of approved models of biogas plants under the scheme
- Various types of biogas plant models are available such as (i) Deenbandhu Fixed Dome Model (ii) KVIC’s Floating Dome Design; and (iii) Prefabricated Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) Digester with KVIC Floating Drum (iv) Flexi Bag Type Biogas Plant
- State Office of SRDD and KVIC for overall performance and motivation and appreciation by MNRE for achieving highest annual targets allotted under the scheme
