Indra Amma Bhojanalya

With the objective of providing nutritious and cheap food to the poor and needy sections of the society, a cheap food canteen has been arranged in the state of Uttarakhand from Government Order No. 1135/xi/15/56(38)2015 dated 25.08.2015, which is named “Indira Amma Bhojanalaya”. The canteen is under the supervision/control of the Chief Development Officer. The Urban Development Authority/Municipal Corporation/Municipality provides free space/furniture etc. necessary resources for the operation of the said canteen and the Uttarakhand Power Corporation and Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan respectively provide electricity and water free of cost. The said canteen is being run by women self-help groups, in which the rate of Rs. 25.00 per plate is taken from the consumer in hilly areas and Rs. 20.00 per plate in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts and Rs. 10.00 is borne by the State Government as a grant per plate. In districts with high population like Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, maximum 1200 plates of food are to be provided per day and in other districts maximum 800 plates of food are to be provided per day. It is necessary for the self-help groups to keep complete details of the beneficiaries, including their name and place of residence, so that there is no irregularity in receiving the contribution provided by the state government. The arrangement of fuel/LPG gas for running the canteen is made through the District Supply Officer. In the areas of urban bodies, self-help groups coming under the National Urban Mission (NULM) are also eligible to run Indira Amma Canteen, there is a provision of giving grant to them by the Rural Development Department.
